Borgo Santo Pietro is a little over fifty minutes from my base in Colle di Val d'Elsa, out towards Chiusdino. Staying here puts you unusually close to the Abbazia di San Galgano, the roofless Gothic abbey, and the sword in the stone above it — a stop most visitors drive an hour for.

I handle arrivals and departures from Florence, Pisa and Rome, and day trips into the wine country and the Val d'Orcia. Being local, I can time a San Galgano visit for the quiet, golden end of the day.
