The drive
The road out of Florence is the Firenze–Siena raccordo, a toll-free dual carriageway that runs south through the hills between the Chianti and the Val d'Elsa. It is the fastest way south and also the prettiest of the fast ways: no lorries to speak of, no motorway barriers to look at, and vineyards on both sides for most of it.
About two thirds of the way down, Monteriggioni appears on the right — a small walled village sitting on its own hill, fourteen towers still standing on the ring wall. It is the one landmark everybody photographs from the car. If you want to stop there for ten minutes rather than photograph it at 90 km/h, say so when you book; it costs nothing to build in.
The run ends at one of Siena's northern exits. In normal traffic it is about an hour and a quarter from kerb to kerb.
Landing at Florence Peretola
Florence's airport is small — one terminal, one arrivals hall, and a walk of perhaps two minutes from the baggage belt to the door. That makes it an easy place to be met: I am inside the hall with your name on a sign, not circling the car park waiting for a phone call.
I watch the flight, so a delay simply moves the pick-up. It does not cost anything and there is nothing you need to do about it. If you land late at night, that is a normal working hour here — the service runs around the clock.
Arriving in Siena
Siena's historic centre is a limited-traffic zone, which is why a car cannot simply pull up outside most addresses inside the walls. What that means in practice is that I set you down at the gate closest to your hotel rather than at a generic car park on the edge of town, so the walk with the luggage is short and downhill rather than long and uphill.

How many people fit in the van?
Up to 8 passengers with their luggage, in a nine-seat Mercedes Vito. Groups of three to eight are exactly what the van is for — you all travel together instead of being split across two cars. For larger parties I can arrange a second vehicle; just tell me the number.
Do you charge per person or per vehicle?
Per vehicle. The price is the same whether there are three of you or eight, which is what makes a group transfer good value — the more of you, the less it costs each. Every journey is quoted on request, so send me your date, airport and group size and the figure comes back.
Which airports do you cover?
Florence Peretola (FLR) and Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) are the closest, both a little over an hour away. I also drive to and from Rome Fiumicino (FCO) and Ciampino (CIA), Milan Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN), Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), Venice Marco Polo (VCE) and Naples Capodichino (NAP).
Can you drive us to a villa in the middle of nowhere?
